Have you ever wondered how much caffeine is packed into The Rock's highly acclaimed energy drink, ZOA?
Well, ZOA is halfway between Red Bull and Bang Energy.
As a fitness enthusiast, I've delved deep into the caffeine content and flavors of this popular beverage to help you make the best choice about your energy-boosting options.
ZOA Energy Drink – Caffeine Levels Per Size
Serving Size | Caffeine Amount | Caffeine Strength |
---|---|---|
8 fl oz can* | 120 mg | Moderate |
12 fl oz can | 160 mg | High |
12 fl oz ZOA + can | 200 mg | Very High |
16 fl oz can | 210 mg | Very High |
*ZOA 8oz cans have been discontinued, but you may still be able to find them in stores.
Caffeine levels of ZOA Energy Drink per size are neither the highest nor the lowest among energy drinks.
Let's take an 8 fl oz can, for example, how much caffeine is in it. It contains 120 mg of caffeine, more than typical energy drinks (Red Bull and Monster), and similar to a double espresso shot or mug of filter coffee.
Overall, it is a moderate amount of caffeine, and for those who consume a lot of caffeine daily, it is an even low amount.
Caffeine amount and thus strength in ZOA Energy Drink increases proportionally.

The 12 fl oz can contain 160 mg, while the 16 fl oz can contains 210 mg of caffeine which is a high caffeine content.
If you are sensitive to caffeine, 160-210 mg of caffeine can trigger mild side effects like jitters or poor night's sleep.
Remember that the FDA recommendation is up to 400 mg per day, so make sure to calculate overall caffeine intake, including ZOA Energy Drink, coffee, tea, and all other caffeinated beverages you drink to avoid too much caffeine.[1]
Caffeine is generally not dangerous for healthy adults and can even benefit your health and mood as long as you consume it in moderation.[2]
Discover ZOA Energy Drink Flavors & Their Caffeine Boost
Interestingly, the 12 oz size is available in all flavors while the 16 oz size is in just 5.
This is usually not the case, but I tried every flavor anyway. I've separated the ones that are available only in 12-oz cans but don't forget that you can find that size in every flavor.
Flavors do not affect the caffeine content, so you can choose the one you like the most and still get 120 or 160 mg of caffeine.
I also had the chance to try new ZOA + flavors.
Let's see which flavors satisfied my taste buds the most.

ZOA Energy Drink Flavors in 12oz Can
My absolute winner is - Cherry Limeade.
Kudos to the manufacturer for finding such a perfect balance of sweetness and sourness. I enjoyed it and drank two more cans of Cherry Limeade since trying them all for the purpose of review.
Frosted Grape is a close second. It's very refreshing with a good aftertaste.
Strawberry Watermelon tastes like a cheap summer drink, but it's not bad. This is a fine option if you don't want an overwhelming flavor but just a caffeine kick.
ZOA Energy Drink Flavors in 16oz Can
If you like a large energy drink, you will have to settle for one of these five flavors.
I know one thing for sure - I will not buy Pineapple Coconut again. For my taste, it is way too sweet and aromatic. Pineapple is the dominant flavor, with only traces of coconut. Pineapple fans will probably be thrilled.
Wild Orange is very strong. It's not terrible, but it reminds me of orange-flavored vitamin C rather than a beverage. If properly chilled, it can be refreshing during scorching hot days, but it can also trigger stomach acid.
White Peach and Super Berry are okay - nothing more, nothing less. I expected Supper Berry to be more sour.
As always, I'm not fond of a Tropical Punch. This megapopular supplement flavor always tastes too artificial, and this is no exception. If you like Tropical/Fruit Punch flavor, you will like ZOA Zero Sugar Energy Drink.
ZOA + Pre-Workout Flavors in 12oz Can

I have a mixed opinion about ZOA + flavors.
I liked Orange Grapefruit and Blackberry Acai so much - perfectly refreshing, gentle aftertaste, and overall natural taste.
Pineapple Passionfruit is not my cup of tea. Similar to the Pineapple Coconut flavor of ZOA, Pineapple Passionfruit is not something I find tasty. In matters of taste, though, there can be no disputes, so you should try it.
Coconut Lemonade is fine, but I find this flavor pretty bland.

What's the deal with ZOA? Why is it so special?
Apart from being endorsed by the one and only Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, ZOA is not full of sugar like many other energy drinks. It boasts a unique blend of natural ingredients, including BCAAs, vitamin C, B vitamins, and more.

That is why I will now tell you a few words about the beginnings of ZOA Energy drinks and then one of the most important parts of the review - nutrition facts and ingredients in ZOA energy drink varieties.
BHQ Note: ZOA used to have flavors that were made with real sugar (Original Flavor and Lemon Lime), but they have since been discontinued. Now all of ZOA's offerings are sugar-free.
History
Initially launched in 2020, ZOA quickly gained traction and captured the attention of customers.
The Rock partnered with Dave Rienzi, IFBB Pro, and they combined their passion for health and wellness to create a beverage that aligns with such values.
The drink is tailored to the needs of individuals seeking to boost energy levels without compromising their fitness status.
Made of natural ingredients, ZOA emerged as a favorite of many in the energy drink market. They carefully selected a perfect blend of vitamins BCAAs, and antioxidants to support vitality and performance.

ZOA Energy Drink contains only 15 calories with zero sugar, fat, and protein in the 16 oz can.
You can consider this a zero-calorie drink because 15 calories do not affect the body. That's why it's easy to fit ZOA Energy Drink into your daily regimen.
It's calorie-free and gluten-free but full of vitamins. One 16 oz can satisfy daily needs for vitamin B6, B12, B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic acid), and vitamin C.

You won't find many energy drinks with such a clean ingredient profile.
There are no artificial flavors or other ingredients except for sweeteners.
It is made of all-natural ingredients like plant extracts, amino acids, and vitamins, plus Sucralose and Acesulfame Potassium, two well-known and approved sweeteners.[3]
However, there are some health concerns, so you should be mindful about their consumption.[4]
What Are Some Alternative Energy Drinks To ZOA?
It's time to compare ZOA Energy Drink to some other competitor products.
Reign – 300 mg in 16 oz
Reign is a healthy energy drink manufactured by Monster Beverages and is extremely potent - Reign 16 oz brings 300 mg of caffeine.
Like ZOA Drink, it is a zero-sugar format and contains mostly natural ingredients. It is sweetened with the same artificial sweeteners and is available in 8 great-tasting natural flavors. Cherry Limeade is my favorite flavor.
The price of a pack of 12 cans (16 oz) is a bit lower compared to ZOA Energy Drink, which is surprising considering that it has as much as 300 mg of caffeine.
Bang Energy – 300 mg in 16 oz
Bang Energy was the first fitness energy drink I tried, and to this day, I often drink it when I need an extra boost before a strenuous workout.
I like many flavors of Bang Energy, such as Lemon Drop, Krazy Key Lime Pie, and Cotton Candy, when I'm nostalgic.
I know many gym goers choose Bang Energy before a workout, too, because its 300 mg of caffeine will give you a huge kick.
Its formulation is also significantly healthier than traditional energy drinks - zero sugar, calories, and artificial flavors.
The price difference between Bang and ZOA is negligible when you buy a 12-pack.
Kill Cliff Ignite – 150 mg in 12 oz
Kill Cliff Ignite is more powerful than ZOA Energy Drink but less likely to cause jitter compared to Bang Energy and Reign because it contains 150 mg in a 12 oz can.
Natural caffeine derived from green tea (and green coffee beans) is always the best, and you'll avoid artificial caffeine.
I find that portion perfect and just the right amount of caffeine.
Kill Cliff Ignite definitely has the cleanest ingredient profile without a single artificial additive. Everything is natural - different flavors, sweeteners (stevia extract), plant extracts, and vitamins, hence the higher price than other products.
You'll want to try it if you're a Joe Rogan fan as well.
