One way I instantly make my Starbucks order more exciting is by adding a different topping.

It’s quick, easy, and there are over 35 interesting Starbucks options to choose from!

I’m going to get into all of them, sharing which drinks I find that go best with each.

From whipped cream to cookie crumble, I have a lot to cover!

1. Java Chips

Starbucks Java Chip Frappuccino

Java Chips are a beautiful chocolate chip topping that goes well with everything chocolate. They taste amazing and add that needed crunch to your favorite Frappuccino.

I think Java chips go best with the Coffee Frappuccino as the flavor profiles are similar, but boosted with the chips!

Add a dollop of whip on a hot chocolate, and the java chips taste amazing, too.

2. Caramel Waffle Sauce

Starbucks Caramel Waffle Latte

This is one of those seasonal Starbucks toppings that only comes around in the winter, but boy, is it worth the wait!

It has a cloying caramel/brown sugar flavor that is super intense!

With more of a rich caramel flavor than its regular counterpart, this spicy winter waffle sauce is perfect with most of the Christmas coffee drinks, such as the Toffee Nut Latte, or Gingerbread Hot Chocolate.

However, my personal favorite is the Iced White Mocha with caramel waffle sauce drizzled over the top!

3. Cocoa Powder

Starbucks Double Chocolate Hot Cocoa Powder

Cocoa powder is a great alternative to mocha sauce or syrup.

It’s what I use if I’m really trying to cut down my calories, while still enjoying the tasty chocolate twist. I love it sprinkled on top of a cold brew!

It’s low-calorie, and adds a lot of flavor - however, it really goes well with just about any coffee drink.

4. Caramel Drizzle

Starbucks Iced Caramel Macchiato with Extra Caramel Drizzle

Caramel drizzle is truly addictive, and when I worked at Starbucks, I had people ordering literally 5-10x the caramel drizzle at times.

It’s easy to fall into the sticky, sweet trap, too!

Whether it’s drizzled on top of a hot or cold drink, the consistency is luxurious, silky, and deliciously sweet.

I personally love it on any type of White Mocha or Oat Milk Latte!

5. Molasses Drizzle

Starbucks Gingerbread Frappuccino with Molasses Drizzle

Molasses drizzle may not be the most obvious choice, but it quickly became a favorite of mine after trying it on the Gingerbread Latte.

It has a kind of old-timey, spicy sweetness that goes well with any other “spicy” or “earthy” drink.

I love it on Pumpkin Spice Lattes, as it really seems to expand that spicy flavor profile while adding a bit of richness.

6. Chestnut Praline Crumbs

Starbucks Chestnut Praline Creme Frappuccino

The Chestnut Praline Crumbs are one of my favorite personal Starbucks toppings.

The spiced, sugary crumble also adds a certain type of texture that I really love, contrasting soft whipped cream or cold foam nicely.

I don’t personally like them with really robust drinks, but enjoy them with white chocolate and lighter flavor profiles.

For example, it goes wonderfully with a Brown Sugar Oat Latte!

7. Dark Chocolate Curls

Starbucks Peppermint Mocha Frappuccino with Dark Chocolate Curls

Off the top of my head, I can’t think of any hot drink that chocolate curls wouldn’t add to.

While they add a nice, crunchy twist to Frappuccinos or whip topping, I love them in hot drinks. They melt and create a chocolatey kind of syrup that really enrich the flavor of any coffee drink.

I love them on the Salted Caramel Mocha for a savory-sweet treat in a cup.

8. Cookie Crumble

Starbucks Frappuccino with Extra Cookie Crumble

Every time I get frozen yogurt or ice cream, my topping of choice is cookie crumble.

That’s why when I discovered that Starbucks had a cookie crumble topping, I really had to restrain myself not to order it every time.

I think it works best on cold beverages like Frappuccinos, though I’ve tried it on iced Americanos with cold foam and it’s amazing.

9. Crunchy Caramel Sugar

Starbucks Toasted Vanilla Espresso with Coconut Milk and Caramel Crunch

This sweet, crunchy topping instantly elevates the flavor profile and sensory experience of any drink you add them to.

The rich caramel taste adds more of a dessert-like feel, and goes wonderfully on cold coffee drinks.

For serious autumn vibes, I will order a Latte with cold foam, apple macchiato drizzle, and crunchy caramel sugar on top!

It tastes like a caramel apple latte!

10. Vanilla Powder

Starbucks Vanilla Bean Frappuccino

Vanilla powder serves the same purpose as chocolate powder.

Sprinkle on your cappuccino or any other drink to add a slightly sweeter burst of flavor to an otherwise basic coffee.

If you want even more sweetness, try pairing vanilla powder with cane sugar.

11. Mocha Drizzle

Starbucks Double Chocolate Chip Creme Frappuccino with Mocha Drizzle

Mocha drizzle is a great way to top off any chocolate-flavored Starbucks drink (even the white mocha) and pairs beautifully with whipped cream for an extra chocolatey taste.

Instead of being a sweet milk chocolatey flavor, it’s rich and a little bitter - kind of like dark chocolate.

I love it drizzled on the sides of a Salted Caramel Latte!

It tastes like a caramel-chocolate brownie, and I just cannot get enough.

12. Toffee Nut Sugar

Starbucks Toffee Nut Latte with Toffee Nut Sugar

Another one of the brilliant seasonal toppings on offer each winter, the Toffee Nut Sugar is a must-have.

It’s not one that’s always available, nor is it available in every location.

However, it goes fantastically on any caramel drink, as well as the Toffee Nut Latte!

13. Red and Green Sprinkles

Starbucks Iced Chai Latte with Red and Green Sprinkles

Red and green sprinkles always make me feel the Christmas spirit!

While I think they’re best on Frappuccinos, they also add a bit of holiday cheer to any drink with whip or cold foam.

The sprinkles themselves don’t really have a specific flavor - more like they just add a bit of sweetness to any drink as they’re pure sugar.

However, it’s a nice visual surprise every time I take my lid off to see the green-and-red party happening in my cup!

14. Sea Salt

Starbucks Caramel Apple Spice with Salt Topping

Hold on - sea salt is seriously one of the best toppings for coffee - especially sweet coffee drinks.

It may seem weird at first, and I wouldn’t order it without sweetness to round the saltiness out.

The saltiness perfectly contrasts and complements rich sweetness like what I find in mochas and caramel beverages.

I love it on a Caramel Pumpkin Macchiato or regular Caramel Macchiato.

15. Pumpkin Spice Powder

Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte with Pumpkin Spice Powder

This is one of Starbucks’ biggest hitters. The topping of the famous pumpkin spice latte.[1]

This pumpkin spice powder adds a brilliant pop of fall flavors to your drink pumpkin spice latte and lets you embrace the changing seasons.

Perfect with any drink using the pumpkin spice sauce, this is for the Pumpkin Spice Latte or Frappuccino.

16. Salted Brown Butter Cookies

Starbucks Frappuccino with Brown Sugar and Toffee Nut and Salted Brown Butter Topping

These aren’t actual cookies, so much as the topping lands somewhere between crumbs and sugar granules.

I love these on cold drinks, as the crunchy coziness adds some dimension to the smoothness.

However, on hot drinks it melts into the drink and creates a sweet richness that tastes more “natural” as opposed to many syrups and sauces.

I actually love the Salted Brown Sugar Cookie topping on a regular Cappuccino!

17. Holiday Sugar Sparkles and Crispy White Pearls

Starbucks Toasted White Mocha Frappuccino with Holiday Sugar Sparkles

Holiday Sugar Sparkles and Crispy White Pearls are more about aesthetic than taste.

However, they do add a bit of sugary sweetness to any drink. Plus, they look great on social media!

I love these on any hot drink, like a regular Latte, or on a Shaken Oat Milk Espresso with cold foam!

18. Cinnamon

Starbucks Pumpkin Creme Frappuccino with Cinnamon

Cinnamon powder used to be my topping of choice on my coffees.

It’s simple yet effective, adding a bit of spice and character without sweetness.

When I’m doing keto, I always get cinnamon powder on my Americanos and cold brews to keep things from being boring.

19. Cinnamon Dolce

Starbucks Iced Cinammon Dolce Latte with Cinnamon Dolce Topping

I’m definitely a fan of cinnamon, and while I enjoy cinnamon powder, if I want something sweeter I opt for the Cinnamon Dolce syrup.

It has a much more intense, concentrated cinnamon-sugar taste, that combines well with other flavors.

I enjoy it both as a drizzle on a cold drink like an Iced Vanilla Latte, or mixed into a hot Americano with Oat Milk.

20. Red Velvet Sugar

Starbucks Iced Red Velvet Latte with Red Velvet Sugar

More than just caramelized sugar, this red velvet topping gives a unique taste to any Starbucks drink.

As one of the seasonal Starbucks toppings, this might not be available year-round, but it's still a great choice to pair with whipped cream on either on a Hot Chocolate or Vanilla Bean Frappuccino.

21. Whipped Cream

Starbucks Whipped Cream Pup Cup

I can never have too much whipped cream.

It makes everything more delicious - I’ve yet to find a drink that doesn’t benefit from a dollop of whip.

It’s sweet, soft, creamy, and like a little cloud of happiness.

I will occasionally order it on a White Chocolate Mocha, but it goes best on Hot Chocolates!

22. Spiced Apple Drizzle

Starbucks Caramel Crunch Frappuccino with Spiced Apple Drizzle

This drizzle makes me want to put on some flannel and go strolling around pumpkin patches.

Spiced Apple Drizzle is the epitome of “autumn”, made of ground nutmeg, apple puree, and a few other spices for a cozy, warm vibe.

I actually LOVE this drizzle on top of a Chai Tea Latte.

The spices in the drizzle complement the spices in the Chai wonderfully, while adding a bit of sweetness.

23. Honey Drizzle

Starbucks Iced Almondmilk Shaken Espresso with Honey Drizzle

I never thought of adding honey to my drinks until recently, though I do find it works best with coffee drinks.

It’s sweet yet still has a natural taste about it, without tasting too saccharine.

I’ll get in on top of a Caramel Macchiato with whip, drizzled on top for a kind of funnel cake taste!

However, it also goes amazingly with any tea on the menu!

24. Funnel Cake Sugar Sprinkles

Starbucks Funnel Cake Frappuccino with Sprinkles

Speaking of funnel cakes, here we are with the next topping!

The standard topping of the Strawberry Funnel Cake Frappuccino, this brilliant addition to the menu consists of pieces of toasted funnel cake dusted with powdered sugar.[2]

It's fantastic on most Frappuccinos, but especially any toasted white mocha drinks!

25. Nutmeg Dust

Starbucks Gingerbread Latte with Nutmeg Dust

Similar to the cinnamon powder, nutmeg is a straightforward topping that adds flavor without the sugar and extra calories.

I actually love adding both together, for a kind of French Toast twist to my coffee drinks.

I enjoy nutmeg on top of my Chai drinks, though it also goes well with pumpkin spice and oat milk.

26. Cranberry Sugar Crystals

Starbucks Latte with Cranberry Sugar Sprinkles

Cranberry is a classic Christmas flavor, and Starbucks absolutely nailed it with the seasonal cranberry sugar crystals.

I do not think it works very well with regular mocha or other chocolate drinks, but it’s amazing with white mocha and nutty flavors.

27. Pumpkin Spice Sauce

Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino with Cookie Crumble, Pumpkin, and Mocha Drizzle

This is what normally goes in Starbucks’ famous pumpkin spice latte, but it’s just as excellent drizzled over the top of any coffee drink.

I love it with whip, for a pumpkin pie feel.

I do find it a bit sweet, though, so I try to ask for half pumps.

28. Strawberry Drizzle

Starbucks Strawberry Strawberry Creme Frappuccino with Strawberry Drizzle

Strawberry drizzle is a serious game-changer for the lighter-flavored drinks!

It’s sweet and fruity, and just looks pretty cool!

I love adding it to Vanilla Bean Frappuccinos, as well as White Mochas!

It makes them taste like strawberries-and-cream, and that’s one of my favorite desserts.

29. Caramel Brulee Sauce

Starbucks Caramel Brulee Frappuccino

With a slightly sweeter and smokier taste than regular caramel sauce, this is a perfect holiday topping.

Drizzle some caramel brulee sauce over any festive drinks like the toffee nut or gingerbread latte to add an extra kick of flavor.

30. Cascara Sugar

Starbucks Frappuccino with Cascara Sugar

I’ll admit that I had no idea what the cascara sugar was until the first time I tried it.

By mixing cane sugar and brewed cascara, Starbucks has made a unique topping that can be used with any Starbucks drink.

Cascara sugar has a flavor profile of chocolate and berries, jiving wonderfully with rich mocha drinks like the regular Mocha or Hot Chocolate.

31. Chunky Fudge

Starbucks Clotted Cream Fudge Cold Brew

It’s weird that I’m not much of a fudge fan on its own, but I love the Chunky Fudge topping on my coffees!

The little fudge pieces that go brilliantly with almost any Frappuccino and iced mochas.

These aren’t always available, but during the winter they come back around!

32. Toasted Honey

Starbucks Honeycomb Salted Caramel Oatmilk Frappuccino

The toasted honey topping tastes strangely reminiscent of Honey Nut Cheerios.

I love the way it adds a happy, mild taste of natural honey and an almost almond nuttiness without being overwhelming.

As it’s one of the milder flavors, I recommend it with vanilla lattes, Cappuccinos, and the like.

33. Caramel Brulee Bits

Starbucks Caramel Brulee Frappuccino

The Caramel Brûlée bits are an explosion of flavor, and really change up the mouthfeel of this drink!

They’re slightly crunchy, a bit sticky, and super delicious.

The Caramel Brûlée bits are like crushed caramel candy which I love on a Honey Almond Milk Flat White!

34. Crunchy Spiced Caramel Waffle

Starbucks Caramel Latte with Caramel Waffle Topping

Waffles and coffee: two things that I’m seriously passionate about. Add them together, and there’s no way I could go wrong.

The Crunchy Spiced Caramel Waffle tastes a ton like Stroopwaffles, which I became obsessed with a few years ago.

It’s the perfect melding of crunchy and soft, with honey, maple, rich flavors that I love on a regular Latte with whipped cream.

35. Cold Foam

Starbucks Iced Sugar-Free Vanilla Latte with Cold Foam

Cold foam is such an essential for me.

It’s like whipped cream but feels a bit more dense and sturdy.

The sweet cream cold foam tastes a bit more luxurious, and more “sophisticated” than whip, if that makes sense.

If I’m honest, I’d order cold foam on literally everything.

My favorite is getting it on an Iced Shaken Espresso, though!

Are Toppings Free At Starbucks?

No, toppings aren’t normally free at Starbucks unless they’re standard with the drink. They are a very reasonable price though, about $0.60.

That said, the price of your drink will really add up if you’re stacking them up on each other.

Try to match up just one or two toppings that go well with your drink and each other to make the most of your Starbucks.
