Since I tried my first matcha latte a few weeks ago, I've been hooked! I just can't get enough of this gorgeous green elixir.

To shove myself further into the dark green deep end, I made it my mission to try every matcha drink at Starbucks.

Check out my (matcha) crème de la crème drinks for inspo before your next Starbucks run.

To kickstart my journey, I decided to indulge my recent Frappuccino kick and start easy with a Matcha Crème Frappuccino.

This blended delight is a gorgeous color - especially when you add whipped cream and some matcha powder on top.

I love how the creamy and slightly sweet base blended with the grassy and slightly earthy taste of the matcha. Not a hint of bitterness in sight!

I highly recommend trying this Frappuccino with your Starbucks non-dairy drink substitute of choice - you'll love this gateway matcha drink!

Tips To Improve This Drink
  • I asked for mine to be made with oat milk which really added another level of earthy creaminess that I adored. All the taste without any of the tummyache afterwards!

Matcha seems intimidating, but it can technically be pared back to just matcha, hot water, and maybe milk.

The Matcha Green Tea Latte is basically the matcha version of the classic latte.

The Matcha Tea Latte definitely felt a little more next level. No sweet cream blends to hide behind - just matcha.

While the grassy, earthy matcha flavor is more present, the steamed whole milk balances the strong flavor of the tea.

Plus, as someone looking to cut their caffeine intake, I was pleased to see that a grande Matcha Latte has only 80 mg of caffeine!

I don't want to drink hot matcha when it's sweltering out. Luckily, this Iced Matcha Tea Latte is perfect for cooling down instead.[1]

The iced version has all the clean and comforting flavor of the hot version, but is not quite as sweet.

This works well for when I want a break from sweet things, but I sometimes add a shot of honey blend syrup for sweet boost.

I've started having the Iced Matcha Tea Latte in the afternoon for a gentle pick-me-up. Its 80 mg of caffeine is the perfect push I need to finish my day.

Iced Matcha Lemonade Standard Ingredients
  • Ice
  • Lemonade
  • Matcha Tea Blend

Since becoming a Dutch Bros fan, the idea of tea and lemonade together is a lot less weird to me. So, when I spotted this Iced Matcha Lemonade on my local Starbucks' menu, I just had to give it a shot.[2]

The sweetness of matcha tea balances out the sourness of the lemonade, which makes it an ideal drink during hot summer days - it's got such a refreshing taste!

I just can't get enough of how fresh and tasty this drink is when it's hot out - it hits the spot every time!

Tips From a Barista
  • Ask for a pump of a fruity syrup in your Iced Matcha Lemonade for an even sweeter summery treat!

5. Iced Pineapple Matcha Drink

Starbucks Iced Pineapple Matcha Latte
Iced Pineapple Matcha Drink Standard Ingredients
  • matcha tea blend
  • coconut milk
  • pineapple ginger syrup

Sipping on an Iced Pineapple Matcha instantly takes my tastebuds on a tropical island getaway - perfect for when I want island vibes without the tourist trap pricetag.

At first, I thought that this pineapple matcha drink sounded like a weird concoction, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well the flavors mixed together.

The nutty flavor of the coconut milk brings out the earthy taste of the matcha tea, and the sourness of pineapple and spiciness of the ginger in the pineapple ginger syrup complements the milk and tea.

Plus, the coconut milk ensures that I get to have a little treat without suffering for it later - a win-win!

Update For 2023:

While this drink has been discontinued, I recently went into a Starbucks in August 2023 and asked the barista to recreate this amazing drink. I ended up with a Grande Paradise Drink with two scoops of matcha powder. It was absolutely delicious and tasted very similar to the iced pineapple matcha drink. If you're craving this drink, I recommend trying this new version!

6. Matcha Pink Drink

Starbucks Iced Matcha Pink Drink
Matcha Pink Drink Standard Ingredients
  • Strawberry Acai base
  • coconut milk
  • freeze-dried strawberries

Since I started my matcha-drinking journey, I began seeing the Matcha Pink Drink all over my feed (the algorithm is definitely listening to me!).

I already loved the original Pink Drink but was curious to see how the sweet and creamy strawberry and acai base would blend with matcha.

The coconut and acai bring a wonderful creaminess that ties the sweetness of the strawberry and earthy grassy-ness of the matcha together nicely.

Cute layering, delicious taste, and a fun combo of flavors? Talk about a recipe for becoming the latest addition to my rotation.

7. Green Tea Matcha

Starbucks Iced Green Tea Matcha

  • matcha green tea
  • hot water

Green Tea Matcha was a drink that I was really curious about but had to work my way up to ordering.

Since there's no milk or sweetness to hide behind, it’s not for matcha newbies or the faint of heart.

After my first sip, I really settled in and enjoyed the strong, grassy, and slightly sweet taste. Plus, there was no milk for my lactose-intolerant body to yell at me about - always a win!

I've started ordering this simple tea in the morning for a gentle start to my day (but with a pump of honey syrup to satisfy my sweet tooth).

8. Secret Menu Green Drink

Starbucks Green Drink
Secret Menu Green Drink Standard Ingredients
  • matcha tea blend
  • coconut milk
  • black tea

When I'm feeling a little adventurous, I treat myself to this Secret Starbucks Menu Green drink.

After all, how could I say no to a double helping of tea?

The recipe may be simple, but the flavors on this drink are surprisingly exotic.

The coconut milk brings out the sweetness of the matcha tea blend and balances the bitterness of black tea.

A lovely and refreshing treat that I often bring on picnic lunches when it's sunny out.

Ask Barista For:
  • One scoop of Matcha Tea blend mixed with coconut milk and black tea.
  • You can choose the Royal English Breakfast or Earl Grey tea depending on your preference.

9. Cha Cha Latte

Starbucks Iced Cha Cha Latte

Chai is a huge comfort drink for me, but I hadn't thought of combining chai flavors with matcha until recently.

So, the Cha Cha Latte is basically a Matcha Tea Latte, but instead of getting the classic syrup with it, you need to ask for chai syrup instead.

I admit that I was a little worried that this hot matcha latte may have too many flavors going on, but one sip of this drink made me beg to disagree.

The spiciness of the chai complements the sweetness of matcha green tea, making this drink an exotic experience.
Ask Barista For:
  • One scoop of Matcha Tea blend mixed with coconut milk and black tea.
  • You can choose the Royal English Breakfast or Earl Grey tea depending on your preference.

10. Peppermint Pow Frappuccino

Starbucks Peppermint Pow Frappuccino

Last but definitely not least is this secret menu drink, the Peppermint Pow Frappuccino.

As its name implies, it includes peppermint, which I absolutely adore come the festive season. However, I was a little skeptical about how it would blend with matcha.

I ended up falling in love! The creaminess of the vanilla bean and the sweetness of matcha balance the minty flavor of peppermint.

I highly recommend this tasty treat to my fellow peppermint-lovers who want to get into matcha. You won't be bored with this flavor combo!

Ask Barista For:
  • A Vanilla Bean Frappuccino with a scoop of matcha green tea and peppermint syrup
  • Top with whipped cream for even more creaminess

What Flavors Go Well With Starbucks Matcha?

Like other commercial matcha mixes, Starbucks uses pre-sweetened matcha in its matcha drinks. It's not real matcha because it’s just blended with sugar, removing the solid and intense flavor of the tea.

I've done a lot of experimenting and found some excellent flavor combos for you to try on your next Starbucks run.

How Do You Ask For Matcha At Starbucks?

Here’s how to ask for matcha at Starbucks and other tips to spice up your matcha drinks:

  • Start as normal with your preferred cup size and whether you want a hot, iced or blended drink.
  • To add matcha to your drinks, just ask the barista for a scoop of matcha tea blend. Alternatively, you can ask for a Matcha Latte or other matcha menu item.
  • Next up is choosing your milk. You can just go with standard whole, nonfat, or 2 percent dairy milk or a breve or heavy cream. Alternatively, you can choose nondairy milks like oat, coconut, soy, or almond.
  • If you want to customize your matcha drink, you can add a Starbucks flavored syrup to your drink.
  • If you want to add some texture and flavor, try asking for java chips or a fruit puree to be blended into your drink.

  • You can also add any toppings you like to your matcha lattes. For example, you can add whipped cream on top of it or drizzle it with your favorite syrup. You can also add vanilla sweet cream cold foam (or other tasty cold foam flavors) for cold beverages.

Common Starbucks Matcha Drink Questions

Starbucks’ matcha is not as healthy because it is sweetened with sugar, so the health benefits you get from the tea are not as great as drinking unsweetened matcha.

Does matcha tea from Starbucks make you poop?

Yes, just like coffee, matcha from Starbucks tea can make you poop. This is because it also contains caffeine and antioxidants that can help with your digestion.

Is it okay to drink matcha every day?

Yes, matcha is okay to consume every day. Like coffee, it has caffeine in it, so if you’re watching your caffeine intake, you should also watch how much matcha you drink every day.
