How To Reset Nespresso Machines? (Easy Steps For All Models)

General Guide For Nespresso Machines

Luckily, resetting your Nespresso to factory settings is not an overly complicated process.

While each model has slightly different instructions for resetting, it's largely the same. Below is a general guide on how to go about resetting your Nespresso.

  • 1
    Eject coffee capsules
Go ahead and eject any used coffee pods from your machine before you attempt a factory reset.
  • 2
    Turn off your machine
Before doing your reset to factory settings, it's important that you turn the machine off.

That's not to say that you should unplug your Nespresso. Instead, simply let it rest for a few minutes after you’ve brewed your coffee before turning it off.
  • 3
    Begin the reset
To begin with resetting your Nespresso to factory settings, go ahead and press and hold the "lungo" button on your device.

The "lungo” buttons are characterized by the button with the larger cup size. Press and hold it for about five seconds until you see the buttons blinking.
  • 4
    Wait
After you press and hold the "lungo” button for about five seconds or so, go ahead and release the button and let the machine do its thing.

Once the buttons are no longer in blinking mode and you can see a consistent light, the reset to factory settings is complete.

    Adjust your settings
Just because you have a reset Nespresso back to factory settings doesn't mean you should go ahead and brew coffee right away.

Resetting your Nespresso implies that it's gone back to the default settings.

You'll need to adjust the settings when you enter menu mode and customize them according to your needs after you've gone back to factory settings mode.

Otherwise, you'd end up with a weird cup of coffee that's not to your liking.

You'll also need to give it a few minutes after you've restored factory settings as the machine heats up.

Most other Nespresso Originaline Machines are all pretty much the same, but a few of the Nespresso models have features like a milk jug for milk foam, and more specific instructions to consider

Nespresso Vertuo

  1. 1
The first step is to leave the lever in an unlocked position on the machine head.
  2. 2
Instead of holding the button, you'll need to quickly push the coffee button five times.
  3. 3
If your machine is resetting, you'll see the button blink five times slowly.

Nespresso Vertuo Next

The Nespresso Vertuo Next reset is similar to a Nespresso Vertuo.

  1. 1
You'll press the top coffee button quickly five times.
  2. 2
Then, the light will turn orange and the orange light will flash five times before flashing to a steady white light.
  3. 3
Once you see the white light, the reset is complete and it's restored to factory settings. You can then enter menu mode to set it up.

Nespresso Vertuo Evoluo

  1. 1
Similar to the Nespresso Vertuo Next, press the button five times quickly.
  2. 2
Then, you'll see the button blink orange five times to confirm that the Nespresso has been reset.

Nespresso Inissia

With the Nespresso Inissia, you’ll follow the general Nespresso reset instructions.

  1. 1
Press and hold the "lungo” button for five seconds.
  2. 2
The lights will then blink before showing a consistent light.
  3. 3
Once the light is steady, you can go ahead and brew yourself a cup of coffee.

Nespresso Citiz

  1. 1
Similar to the Nespresso Inissia, go ahead and hold down the “lungo” button, and wait for the lights to blink.
  2. 2
Once the blinking has stopped and it shows a steady light, your Nespresso Citiz is good to go.

Nespresso Essenza Mini

  1. 1
Similar to the above, you’ll go ahead and press your “lungo” button on the Essenza mini for about five seconds or so.
  2. 2
After the lights have blinked and are steady and good to go, you can go ahead and use your Nespresso Essenza Mini machine.

Nespresso Lattissima One

  1. 1
The Nespresso Lattissima Touch is slightly different in that you’ll need to place the hot milk jug to the side.
  2. 2
Instead of the "lungo” button, you’ll press the milk button for three seconds.
  3. 3
After you let go of the milk button you'll see the alert lights start to blink.
  4. 4
Go ahead and press the milk button on the Lattissima One again. After it blinks, press the milk button one more time to confirm that the factory reset is complete.

Resetting Nespresso Machine After Descaling

Resetting your Nespresso after descaling could differ depending on the model that you’ve got. Generally speaking, however, to exit descaling mode, you'll proceed with the following steps:

  1. 1
Hold the button for at least seven seconds.
  2. 2
Once the button stops blinking and becomes steady, the descaling process is complete
  3. 3
Wait for the machine to dry for at least 10 minutes after the factory reset before using it.

Once that's complete, go ahead and proceed with resetting your Nespresso (as per the steps mentioned earlier).

It is important to go into reset mode after descaling just so you know that your Nespresso Originalline machine (or other coffee maker model) has completely exited the descaling process and is fully restored to factory settings.

Once you've reset to factory settings, turn the machine on and give it a few minutes as the machine heats up.

You should then be able to press and hold whatever cup size button you like to make the coffee of your choice.

  1. I’ve had the same issue with my nespresso essenza mini. Ended up buying a new machine. Will be afraid to descale the new one

  2. I have a nepresso breviile creatista coffee machine. I have descaled it now twice but it won’t go out if descaling setting. Have turned it off at the wall and 20 minutes later turned it back on. Still flashing to descale and can’t get out of it. What is the next step. How can I reset the machine when it won’t let me out of desaling mode?
