Being vegan and ordering from coffee shops like Dutch Bros can sometimes feel more complicated and intimidating than ever before.

Since I discovered that I was lactose-intolerant, I am always extra careful when ordering, double- or triple-checking the drink's recipe to ensure that it only contains vegan ingredients.

But how can I be sure that my Dutch Bros coffee and tea are vegan?

Today, I'll dive into my top ten vegan drinks at Dutch Bros and how I put a plant-based twist on otherwise non-vegan orders.

Nutty Irishman Cold Brew Standard Ingredients

  • Irish Cream syrup
  • Hazelnut syrup

A cold brew is an excellent choice if I need a caffeine boost. It's plain but great for when I want to enjoy a simple coffee.

For days when plain coffee doesn't cut it, I love adding one of Dutch Bros' plant-based syrups to my favorite coffee. This Nutty Irishman cold brew combo is one that I highly recommend.

To make it even creamier, ask for plant-based milk such as oat or coconut milk.

The result? A drink that resembles an Irish cream with an extra caffeine kick to get me energized for the day.

Extra Tip: Ask for a nitro cold brew instead of the regular one if you want more caffeine.
How To Order So It's Vegan
  1. Order a Cold Brew with a plant-based milk of your choice
  2. Ask for Hazelnut syrup
  3. Ask for Irish Cream syrup

Passion Water Rebel Standard Ingredients

  • Blackberry syrup
  • Pomegranate syrup

When I'm craving a kick from something other than coffee, the Passion Water Rebel is my go-to vegan-friendly drink of choice.

It is one of Dutch Bros' signature energy drinks, so it's a perfect alternative if I need an energy boost without drinking coffee.

This vegan Dutch Bros drink is made with passion fruit syrup, watermelon syrup, and a Rebel energy drink.

When some friends offered me my first sips of their Dutch Bros Rebel drinks, it reminded me of a fruity Red Bull.

It gives me the energy boost I need but in a more delicious and enjoyable way thanks to the flavor combination of the syrups.

Tips When Ordering
  • Ask for a sugar-free version of this drink if you're trying to cut down on sugar

Double Rainbro Tea Standard Ingredients
  • green tea or Paris black tea
  • strawberry syrup
  • peach syrup
  • coconut syrup

Vegan tea lovers, this is for you! The name of this drink is a play on words from the infamous Youtube video - the double rainbow guy!

Double Rainbro Tea isn't only colorful but is also made with a variety of vegan-friendly flavors that I love. It is made with strawberry syrup, peach syrup, and coconut syrup.

Isn't that an exciting mix of fruity goodness in one cup? Every sip reminds me of a summer dream—refreshing, light, and tangy.

A medium cup only contains 180 calories, which is on the low end for such a delicious cup. Since it goes well with either green tea or Paris black tea, I often flip between the two depending on my mood.

Even better, I can get this drink hot or cold no matter the season. In my opinion, this makes it one of the best vegan Dutch Bros beverages for all-year-round.

4. Sweet Sunrise Rebel

Dutch Bros Blended Sweet Sunrise Rebel
Sweet Sunrise Rebel Standard Ingredients
  • Dutch Bros Rebel™ Energy Drink
  • Peach Syrup
  • Passion Fruit Syrup
  • Orange Syrup
  • Banana Syrup

Another Dutch Bros vegan-friendly drink I love is the Sweet Sunrise Rebel. Like the Passion Water Rebel, this uses the Dutch Bros Rebel energy drink.

It doesn't require substituting any ingredient with plant-based alternatives. I can directly order it from the menu at this coffee chain - no sweat!

As the name implies, this drink looks like a sunrise with an unforgettably sweet taste.

It is packed with the natural flavors of peach, passion fruit, banana, and orange. The flavor combination may sound a bit overwhelming but, trust me, it's the best.

It's out of this world—a fizzy drink to enjoy any time of the day. I often order this drink in its sugar-free form when I want to cut extra calories.

5. Double Chocolate Mocha Freeze

Dutch Bros Double Chocolate Mocha Freeze
Double Chocolate Mocha Freeze Standard Ingredients
  • blended coffee
  • Dark Chocolate Mocha Syrup
  • Choice of Milk

Vegans know that chocolate in various coffee chains isn't always animal product-free.

So, it's only sometimes safe to order mocha drinks, especially as someone following a strict vegan diet.

Thankfully, Dutch Bros Chocolate Mocha Freeze can be made vegan. This is good news for all vegan chocolate lovers out there.

Dutch Bros Freeze is essentially like Starbucks's Frappuccino drinks. So, if you want a blended frozen drink, this is an excellent choice.

Unfortunately, the pre-made Freeze mix and whipped cream they use isn't plant-based, so I need to make some changes to hit that frozen mocha craving.

How To Order So It's Vegan
  1. Ask for a Double Chocolate Mocha Freeze with your vegan milk of choice
  2. Ask for no whipped cream

Annihilator Standard Ingredients
  • espresso
  • chocolate Macadamia nut syrup
  • half and half

Dutch Bros is famous for the variety of flavored coffee drinks they offer. However, some of the ingredients don't have a plant-based alternative.

Still, there are drinks like the Dutch Bros Annihilator that can be enjoyed by vegans, guilt-free!

The original Annihilator comes with a breve, but it is possible to turn it vegan.

I love replacing this drink with oat milk. It may not have quite the same creaminess as the original drink, but the nutty goodness of the chocolate macadamia nut syrup is still there.

This drink is available hot, cold, or blended. This means I can enjoy it no matter the weather, making it one of the best dairy-free Dutch Bros drinks!

How To Order So It's Vegan
  1. Ask for the original Annihilator Breve with the vegan milk of your choice
  2. Ask for chocolate macadamia nut syrup

Green Apple Smoothie Standard Ingredients
  • Green Apple fruit Smoothie
  • topped with whipped cream

Apart from coffee, tea, and energy drinks, Dutch Bros also offers smoothies that can be enjoyed anytime. One of my favorites is the green apple smoothie.

It's the perfect balance of sweet and sour, and every sip leaves me wanting more. I often end up finishing it before I even realise it!

A medium smoothie contains 590 calories, which sounds a bit too much for a simple drink. However, it can be just the right way to start my day when I'm in a rush.

Although green apple isn't a popular fruit of choice by many, this drink is a hit with me!

Tip For Ordering Vegan
  • Ask for your smoothie without the whipped cream

Cold Brew with Oat Milk Standard Ingredients
  • Cold Brew Coffee
  • Oat Milk

The cold brew with oat milk is an excellent choice when I want a creamy no-frills drink. This classic drink doesn't have any fancy syrups or flavors, just the good stuff.

It is made with plain cold brew and features creamy oat milk. It is ideal for those days when I want a refreshing caffeine boost with a bit of creaminess.

Ask for a nitro-infused cold brew with oat milk on days when you need a little extra boost.

9. The Bob Frost

Dutch Bros Bob Frost
The Bob Frost Standard Ingredients
  • Bananas Smoothie
  • Coconut Smoothie
  • Dark Chocolate Smoothie
  • Milk of Choice

Smoothies are great - but some days I don't feel like being smacked in the face by fruity sweetness. On those days, enter the Bob Frost.

A Frost is basically a Dutch Bros version of a shake, which is usually a no-go for vegans. However, it is possible to give it a happy little vegan twist with a bit of creativity.

Although it contains bananas and coconuts, dark chocolate makes it more appealing when I'm looking for a blended drink that tastes like dessert.

Bob Frosts are such a treat for me. I love ordering one one special occasions or after particularly long weeks at work.

How To Order So It's Vegan
  • Ask for a Bob Frost with the vegan milk of your choice
  • Ask for no whipped cream

10. Private Reserve

Dutch Bros Private Reserve Gift Box
Private Reserve Standard Ingredients
  • arabica beans from Central and South America

One of the best vegan Dutch Bros drinks is the Private Reserve. This is their version of brewed coffee, which is something that I can easily make at home.

Since I can brew this at home, I have the option to customize it however I want! I can add a splash of my favorite vegan milk, syrup, or sweetener - the world's my oyster when I get my hands on some Private Reserve.

The best part? I don’t need to leave the comforts of my home if I want to enjoy a Dutch Bros coffee!

How Do You Know Which Dutch Bros Drinks Are Vegan?

I have some bad news; there is no perfect way to find out which drinks are vegan and which aren't.

Luckily, I have managed to get a rundown of what drinks are plant-based and can be made as one.

Cold brews, lattes, and Americanos are the best choices. They can easily be mixed with non-dairy options and syrups with vegan options.

For example, the Oat Milk Kicker latte, Cinnamon Swirl Oat latte, iced soy Annihilator, and Hazelnut latte can all be made vegan-friendly.

If you love teas and iced teas, try the Dirty Chai (espresso shots with chai latte) with non-dairy milk and Pink Grapefruit green tea.

Some Dutch Bros Rebels and Freezes include dairy, so if you want to order them, check our list for drinks that can be made plant-based.

The Freeze mix isn't vegan, so I recommend asking them to replace it with vegan milk.

If you're unsure whether a drink is vegan, it's best not to order it and try something else instead.

Tips For Ordering Vegan Beverages At Dutch Bros

In general, when I order non-vegan drinks, I replace the dairy base with oat milk, almond milk, or coconut milk.

I also recommend adding vegan-friendly flavors to plain coffee and tea for a fun twist.

Avoid drinks with caramel, white chocolate, eggnog, almond Roca, and pumpkin sauces, like English Toffee Mocha and Hazelnut Truffle Mocha.

However, some mocha drinks have vegan-friendly flavoring, like the Grasshopper, which is a combination of creme de menthe and dark chocolate, and Double Torture, which contains vanilla mocha with two extra shots of vanilla.

It's best to skip the whipped cream and soft top toppings as they use dairy. It is possible to order a blended frozen drink minus the milk or yogurt, but this may alter the flavor of the drink.

What Dutch Bro Menu Items Are NOT Dairy-Free?

Here are some of the ingredients to avoid at all costs if you’re on a plant-based diet:

Dutch Frosts

Dutch Bros Frosts are impossible to make vegan as their main ingredient is an ice cream mix.[1]

However, some drinks allow you to switch the frost with plant-based milk, like the Bob Frost. These drinks also come with whipped cream, but I always skip that.

Some Sauces and Syrups

While there are sauces from Dutch Bros that are safe for vegans, caramel sauce, white chocolate sauce, sugar-free white chocolate sauce, and pumpkin pie sauce are not.

They contain some form of skim milk, condensed, or non-fat milk and don’t have plant-based substitutes.

The same goes for some syrups. Almond Roca syrup, caramel syrup, and English toffee syrup also have some animal products in them and have no alternatives.

One thing to note: both of these use cane sugar.

Any Milk-Based Toppings or Additions

Dairy toppings like whipped cream are a big no-no for vegans. However, Dutch Bros uses their own terms for these toppings, so you should familiarize yourself with them:

  • Soft Tops: Dutch Bros’ version of Starbucks’s cold foam.
  • Kick Me Mix: It is essentially half and half or breve
  • Freeze Mix: This uses whole milk.

Cocoa

Many cocoa drinks from Dutch Bros aren't vegan-friendly, especially those made with Dutch Bros chocolate milk or Dutch Chocolate blend.

So, unfortunately, you can't swap it with a plant-based alternative. However, some chocolates on the menu can be substituted with plant-based milk and chocolate syrup.

Just ask your Broista if it's possible.

Frequently Asked Dutch Bros Vegan Drink Questions

Not all Dutch Bros smoothies are vegan as some contain yogurt. It's best to tell your Broista you want a vegan smoothie to avoid confusion.

Yes, all drinks at Dutch Bros have the option of choosing oat milk over dairy milk. In addition, the coffee chain has some non dairy milk specialties, such as the Oat Milk Kicker!

Conclusion

There are plenty of vegan drinks at Dutch Bros for those looking to stay in line with their diet.

While this coffee chain doesn't have a dedicated vegan and dairy-free menu, it's possible to still enjoy some of their popular drinks using plant-based alternatives like almond milk.

Just remember to mention that you're vegan to ensure you get your order free from animal products.
