The Dutch Bros Golden Eagle is the drink responsible for reeling me into this DB addiction I’ve been dealing with for the past years.

It’s not necessarily a secret beverage, but it’s certainly one that has me and everyone I know in its clutches.

So what exactly is it, and why is it so great?

I’m going to share the Golden Eagle’s recipe, why it’s so popular, and the best ways to customize the drink.

  • Dutch Bros Golden Eagle is a Breve with:
    - Robust espresso balanced with half and half
    - Vanilla syrup and caramel sauce
    - Topped with whipped cream and caramel sauce drizzle
  • This drink can be ordered hot, iced, or blended

Golden Eagle Appearance & Flavor

The Dutch Bros Golden Eagle has a unique flavor profile that combines the strong coffee flavor of espresso with the sweetness of syrups, the creaminess of half and half, and the subtle nuttiness from the cinnamon or nutmeg topping.

This combination creates a delicious and simple beverage that doesn’t require anything fancy to get the job done.

I love it because it’s not just sweet on sweet.

The bold espresso in the recipe balances out the indulgent caramel and vanilla flavors while the half and half creates a rich texture.

Not to mention, it's perfect for a quick caffeine fix while still tasting like dessert.

While I enjoy ordering the drink hot or iced, the latter always looks like a masterpiece.

The caramel is drizzled all around the transparent cup, with fluffy whip drizzled with more caramel on top.

What’s in the Golden Eagle Dutch Bros?

Recipe List:
  • 2 shots of bold espresso
  • 6 ounces of half and half
  • 1 tbsp of vanilla syrup
  • 1 tbsp of caramel sauce
  • Ice
  • Whipped cream
  • Caramel drizzle
While it won’t be quite as luxurious in texture, the half and half can be substituted for a plant-based milk instead.

How To Order The Golden Eagle At Dutch Bros

Ordering the Golden Eagle at Dutch Bros is straightforward - even for a complete newbie.

In fact, that’s the whole reason I first tried the Golden Eagle!

Simply choose the size and whether it will be hot, iced, or blended. Any customizations or additions can be mentioned after that.

For example, ‘I’d like a Large Hot Golden Eagle Breve with almond milk and extra caramel drizzle’.

How To Order
  • Ask for white coffee instead for a less bold espresso taste that lets the vanilla and caramel really come through.
  • Ask for a shot of chocolate macadamia nut syrup instead of vanilla
  • For a more savory drink, switch out the regular caramel drizzle for salted caramel drizzle.

5 Best Dutch Bros Golden Eagle Customizations

One of the biggest things I love about Dutch Bros is the endless customization options.

I’ve added everything from hazelnut to raspberry to my Golden Eagle, and I guarantee it can be customized to suit any preference.

I’m going to share some of my favorite Golden Eagle modifications, to give an idea of how the classic drink can be changed:

1. Keto Golden Eagle

The Dutch Bros Keto drink version is a perfect choice when I’m really dialing in my carb/sugar intake.

This drink uses almond milk and sugar-free syrup to create a low-carb version of the classic Golden Eagle, so I get to enjoy the flavors I love without compromising my goals.

Keto Golden Eagle Ingredients
  • Espresso
  • Heavy cream
  • Sugar-free vanilla Syrup
  • Sugar-free Caramel syrup
  • Sugar-Free caramel drizzle

2. ‘Low Calorie' Iced Golden Eagle

Delicious drinks don’t have to be packed full of calories!

This low-calorie version of the Iced Golden Eagle takes zero-sugar caramel sauce and vanilla syrup.

It omits the whipped cream for a lighter version of the classic, cutting down calories without sacrificing that sweet-and-savory flavor profile.

Keep in mind, that this recipe can be applied to the hot version of the drink, too.

Low-Calorie Golden Eagle Ingredients
  • Espresso
  • almond milk
  • Sugar-free vanilla Syrup
  • Sugar-free Caramel syrup
  • Sugar-Free caramel drizzle

3. Chai Golden Eagle

The Chai Golden Eagle is dangerously good, and I start craving it every time autumn hits.

It features all of the original Golden flavors, but substitutes the espresso for chai tea.

The Dutch Bros chai drink version is sweet, spicy, earthy, and creamy - a delicious concoction that I go to first during the rare times I'm avoiding caffeine.

Not only that, but chai tea comes with plenty of health benefits that I like to believe I’m reaping.[2]

Golden Eagle Chai Ingredients
  • Chai tea
  • Half-n-half
  • vanilla Syrup
  • Caramel syrup
  • caramel drizzle
  • Whipped cream

4. Upside Down Golden Eagle

This version of the Golden Eagle is made in the typical way with espresso, half and half, caramel sauce, and vanilla syrup.

The main difference is that the milk is added to the bottom of the cup before the other ingredients are poured in before adding caramel drizzle to the top, so all the good stuff isn’t sitting at the bottom the whole time.

Upside Down Golden Eagle Ingredients
  • Espresso
  • Half-n-half
  • vanilla Syrup
  • Caramel Sauce

5. Soft Top Golden Eagle

No, I’m not talking about the Jeep Wrangler of the same name.

This adaptation classic Golden Eagle is made with the usual espresso, half and half, caramel sauce, and vanilla syrup, but not the whip.

Rather, it’s topped with a marshmallow cream-like soft top, which I find tastes like vanilla and reminds me a bit of a thicker cold foam.

Soft Top Golden Eagle Ingredients
  • Espresso
  • Half-n-half
  • vanilla Syrup
  • Caramel Sauce
  • Marshmallow Cream

It’s probably a surprise to no one, but the Golden Eagle is pretty high in sugars, carbs, and calories.

It’s definitely not my daily drinker for that reason, but it’s perfect for an occasional treat and to switch up my usual coffee.[3]

Calorie Content

The calorie content of the beverage varies depending on the serving size and type of drink ordered.

The average blend comes in at around 550 calories per serving, but it is important to note that this will vary depending on adaptations and additions.

The keto version has a lower calorie content due to the use of almond milk and sugar-free syrup. Half and half isn’t exactly low-cal, and neither are the full-sugar syrups and sauces.

Caffeine Content

No matter what kind of coffee I order, it better supply me with enough caffeine to get through the day.

While the Golden Eagle’s caffeine content varies depending on the size and temperature, the drink offers around 256 mg of caffeine per 20 ounces.

It is important to be aware of how much caffeine you consume, and remember that excess caffeine consumption can have adverse effects.[4]

The FDA’s recommendation is no more than 400 mg of caffeine a day for healthy consumers.

How To Make A Golden Eagle At Home (Copycat Recipe)

Not everyone is lucky enough to have a Dutch Bros nearby, but no one has to miss out on Golden Eagle goodness.

It’s surprisingly easy to make a copycat version of the best tasty breve on the menu with the following ingredients:

Things You’ll Need

To bring your blended recipe to life, these are the following ingredients:

  • 2 shots of espresso
  • 1/2 cup of half and half, chilled and mixed
  • 2 tablespoons of caramel sauce, plus extra for caramel drizzle
  • 1 shot vanilla (or two tablespoons sugar as an alternative)
  • Whipped cream
  • Ice for iced version

Step By Step Instructions

Follow these steps to create a hot or iced brew:

  • 1
Begin by brewing two shots of espresso, and place the half and half somewhere to chill.
  • 2
Once the coffee is brewed, add half an ounce of the caramel sauce and mix well. Place the cup to one side when done.
  • 3
Take a tall glass and add ice if desired. Add caramel sauce drizzle to the insides of the glass.
  • 4
Add the caramel espresso, top with a shot of the vanilla syrup, mix and leave to settle.
  • 5
Once the mixture has settled, add the half and half for that blended Golden Eagle taste.
  • 6
Add whipped cream to the top if desired, and then add caramel sauce drizzle.
  • 7
    Enjoy!
