I've really been on a Dunkin' Refreshers kick lately, but wanted to make sure I'm not overdoing in the caffeine department.

So, I dove headfirst and learn all I could about caffeine in Dunkin' Refreshers.

I decided to share my experiences to help you pick the right Dunkin' Donuts Refresher no matter your caffeine tolerance!

  • Dunkin' Refreshers do typically contain caffeine, though the amount varies depending on serving size
  • Most Dunkin' Refreshers contain between 66 and 132 mg of caffeine per serving
  • The caffeine comes from the green tea extract used in the ingredients
  • A Dunkin' Refreshers' caffeine level is less than Dunkin' coffees but is a similar level to Dunkin' teas
  • Dunkin' Refreshers typically contain 80-320 calories, 21-80 carbs, and 19-76 g of sugar

Do Dunkin Refreshers Contain Caffeine? (Surprising Facts!)

Dunkin' Refreshers have caffeine. How much caffeine varies based on which Dunkin' Refresher size and flavor you get.

When I looked, I found Refreshers have caffeine in proportion to the Dunkin' cup sizes. This definitely ISN’T a surprising fact - but the specifics aren’t what you might expect!

I didn’t notice any excess jitters or spikes in my energy, and the caffeine is similar for all the flavors.

Still, it’s worth noting that Dunkin' Donuts says, “...Caffeine values can vary greatly based on the variety of coffee/tea and the brewing equipment/steeping method used.”[1]

Here's a breakdown of the caffeine amounts so you can jump to the caffeinated and fruit-flavored Refresher that appeals to you the most.

Dunkin Coconut Refresher

Coconut milk Refreshers have been a lovely way for me to kickstart my summer - and keep it rolling throughout the year!

They are exactly the same as their green tea base counterparts, just with coconut milk instead of green tea - and I'm obsessed!

The coconut milk brings a slightly thicker and creamier mouthfeel with a lovely tropical nuttiness. I can't overstate how well the coconut milk mellows out the strong fruit flavors of the refreshers, mellowing out the heavy sweetness and bringing a tinge of vanilla.

Overall, a lovely treat that reminds me of certain Asian coconut milk desserts.

I adore a flavored lemonade when it's hot out - I was practically raised on the stuff!

Similar to the coconut milk, the addition of lemonade to Dunkin's Refreshers brings out a brightness and tang that really lifts the fruity notes.

There's just the right amount of sweetness and tartness in each sip - plus, the citrus goes so well with many of these fruity combos.

I honestly prefer the Lemonade versions of the Refresher lines. They're just so light and refreshing when it's hot out!

Peach is one of my favorite flavors for iced drinks - if I could be hooked to an IV full of peach iced tea, I would do it without hesitation.

So, of course, I had to give the Peach Refresher a try! I was so excited to get stuck in but I ended my first sip feeling disappointed.

The peach flavor is front and center but it's overpowering and way too sweet, almost like a peach-flavored Jolly Rancher.

I'd recommend adding lemonade as the base for a brighter and lighter version of this summery iced tea.

Peach and passionfruit - a classic combo! I was so excited to try this one.

Once again, the peach flavor was very strong and, honestly, a little artificial tasting. The passionfruit is more subtle than I would like, but there is a tartness there that I enjoy.

I'm not sure what changed, but the taste of the Peach Passion Fruit Refresher was more balanced with better acidity than the Peach version.

I don't know what magic Dunkin' worked here, but I loved this refreshing (ha!) take.

Get this with lemonade for a tasty drink you can enjoy all summer long.

I admit, I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the Strawberry Dragonfruit Refresher - I'm just not that into dragonfruit.

However, I was pleasantly surprised!

I loved the strong strawberry flavor (not artificial-tasting at all) and the dragonfruit somehow added subtle floral notes that kept me coming back for more.

This is a simple drink that honestly reminds me of Starbucks' original Refresher range (before they started getting crazy in the flavor and fruit pieces department).

Fruity, sweet, summery - what more could you want?

Strawberry drinks can be so hit and miss for me; I love strawberries but hate when a strawberry drink or sweet has that artificial flavor and aftertaste.

The Strawberry Refresher blew my expectations out of the water!

The strawberry flavor is strong, as with other Dunkin' Strawberry Refresher drinks, and the green tea base is subtle in comparison. It is very sweet on its own, almost like strawberry candy, so I recommend getting ice or experimenting with a lemonade or coconut base.

Simple and light, this sweet strawberry drink is a great pick-me-up on a warm summer afternoon.

I go absolutely feral for mango anything as soon as it gets hot out, so you know that I had to get my hands on the Mango Refresher.

I loved how bright the drink was and the lovely mango flavor, but there is a weird aftertaste I can't describe that put me off a little.

Something about it reminds me of a mango Arizona Iced Tea.

This Mango Refresher is a sweet way to cool off when it's warm out. I'd absolutely get it again!

Another mango drink that I could not wait to try was the Mango Pineapple Refresher, especially after trying the Mango flavor.

This was just as pretty and sweet as the pure Mango flavor, but the mango was completely overshadowed by the strong artificial pineapple taste.

I remedied this by asking for less pineapple in my next order and getting lemonade instead of green tea - this really helped balance out the fruity flavors.

Overall, this is definitely a sweet and summery drink, but I recommend experimenting to find the best balance for your tastebuds.

Raspberry and watermelon are such quintessential summery flavors, but I haven't really seen them together all that often - imagine my excitement at seeing this Refesher flavor.

Immediately, the taste is very watermelon-forward in a hard candy way, which is great for my inner kid. I wish the raspberry was a little stronger but the green tea base did the best job complementing these fruity flavors.

The color is so pretty, especially in the sunlight - it just looks so tasty!

I definitely preferred the green tea version to the slightly-too-tart lemonade version and slightly confusing coconut version.

Caffeine In Starbucks Refreshers

Energy drinks like Dunkin' Refreshers have a decent caffeine level. I got a lift from drinking all the cup sizes, no matter the flavor.

I knew Starbucks had a popular range of Refreshers, too, so I thought I'd check them out and compare. Starbucks has Tall, Grande, Venti, and Trenta size drinks.

I've represented these as S-XL as the caffeine ranges were similar for all products.

You’ll usually get the biggest energy boost from Dunkin' Refreshers.

Only when you order the 24-ounce Venti size or 32-ounce Trenta size will you get more caffeine than a small-sized cup from Dunkin' Donuts.

Healthy Alternatives To Dunkin Refreshers

Sometimes other Dunkin' Refreshers and their fruit concentrates don’t give me what I want. I occasionally go for all-natural alternatives with less sugar and less caffeine.

This way, I don't worry about having too many calories or additives that day. If you're the same, here are two other refreshing Dunkin' options I like.

Unsweetened Iced Tea

Dunkin' Donuts Refreshers are known for their cool freshness.

I always want to preserve that sensation in other beverages I try. Especially on a hot summer day when I need a refreshment after more than about half an hour outside!

The unsweetened iced tea is ideal for me. It’s made with green tea when I want something herbal. It has barely ANY sugar and caffeine compared to other drinks.

Even the black tea version is much the same - apart from the taste, of course.

Cold Brew Coffee

Because Refreshers have caffeine, my preference for the next best alternative is a cold brew coffee. This preserves the caffeine and freshness but keeps out the sugar.

The average small beverage from Dunkin Donuts is always refreshing, but if you're counting calories, it's best to stick to coffee as it lacks additives like sugar.

Cold brew coffee is a fantastic way for me to achieve that without sacrificing the nice cooling sensation I enjoy so much.
