Who Should Buy The DeLonghi Dinamica Plus?

The DeLonghi Dinamica Plus is the perfect machine for coffee lovers who want cafe-quality coffee at home but don't have the time or inclination to master the art of brewing espresso.

It's a bean-to-cup machine that does all the work for you—no learning curve, no manual work, all automated!

Why I Decided To Review The DeLonghi Dinamica Plus Espresso Machine

I’m a pretty busy lady. Apart from being a home barista who keeps trying to perfect my brew, I’m also a writer who has deadlines—a lot of them.

So, during those days when I’m busy writing, I don’t have extra time to make the perfect cup. I simply rely on my trusty drip coffee machine to keep me caffeinated.

Then I saw the Dinamica Plus, a super-automatic espresso machine that does all the brewing for you.

Of course, I had to give it a go and see if it can serve me my favorite espresso-based drinks during my busy days.

Here’s how I put this machine to the test.

What’s It Like To Live With The DeLonghi Dinamica Plus

It’s pretty obvious that I’m a coffee aficionado, and as one, a fully automatic espresso machine like the De’Longhi DInamica Plus is heaven-sent.

With just a few taps, I can have my favorite specialty drinks in just a few minutes. What a treat!

Of course, this super-automatic espresso machine isn’t all rainbows and unicorns. Like other machines, the Dinamica Plus has its limitations.

Despite those, I still enjoyed my experience with this machine.

Here’s what went down with this machine.

What’s In The Box?

I've always felt that the unboxing experience tells you a lot about a brand's commitment to quality, and let me tell you, DeLonghi doesn’t disappoint in this regard.

When the Dinamica Plus arrived at my doorstep, it was in a flawlessly packed box, and I could immediately sense the level of care that had gone into it.

First of all, it was securely packed. I ordered mine online, and we all know that there are risks involved when ordering pretty much anything online.

Thankfully, my DeLonghi machine came in one piece, with all the included accessories in the box cushioned well.

Apart from the well-secured packaging, the Dinamica Plus is packed with tools you'll need for a seamless espresso brewing experience. In the box, you'll find:

  • The Dinamica Plus machine
  • A measuring scoop
  • Removable water spout
  • Milk jug
  • Cleaning brush
  • Descaler (100ml)
  • Total hardness test
  • Carbon active water filter
  • Instruction Manual & Quick Start Guide
DeLonghi Dinamica Plus Box Contents

Of all these accessories, the most important things you need to be aware of are the carbon activated water filter and total hardness test.

Let's start with the water filter. One thing I've noticed about many home baristas is that they don't usually use water filters in their machine.

This can be problematic for your machine in the long run, especially if you live in an area with a hard water supply.[1]

The carbon active water filter included with the Dinamica Plus helps in purifying the water that goes into your brew, reducing the possibility of limescale build-up, which can be detrimental to your machine's health.

Not only does this ensure longevity for your espresso maker, but it also contributes to a cleaner, purer taste in your coffee—a win-win!

Now, the total hardness test—another component often overlooked but equally important. The test is a simple strip that you immerse in your tap water, and it measures the degree of hardness.

Why does this matter, you ask? Well, using water that's too hard can lead to deposits in your machine, while water that's too soft might not extract all the flavor from your coffee beans.

This little tool guides you to make sure you're using the best water for both your machine and your taste buds.

Pulling My First Espresso Shot

From setting up the machine to grinding, pulling, and frothing, the De'Longhi Dinamica Plus took care of everything. Let me show you how.

Initial Set Up

Most home espresso machines I have tried required an initial set-up, particularly those with automatic features. With the Dinamica Plus, the initial set-up was straightforward.

Before you assemble the machine, make sure you clean and rinse its parts. After that, you begin setting it up.

Well, the process was simple. The first step is just simply choosing the language of your choice for the system.

There are 18 different languages to choose from, including Italian, Russian, Polish, English, and more.

Once you've chosen your preferred language, the next step is to run water through the internal system of the brewer.

Flushing the machine ensures that the internal parts are cleaned thoroughly before starting your coffee-making experience.

Just remember to have a bowl or cup that can hold a minimum of 100 ml underneath the hot water spout to avoid filling your drip tray with water and creating a mess on your counter.

Although the Dinamica Plus doesn't have a touch screen, the whole process is still intuitive. However, I think that it has some areas to improve.

For instance, you'll need to set the water hardness level on your own as it is not included in the initial on-screen set-up. You also need to activate the water filter setting manually on the menu.

So, apart from the on-screen instructions to set up your machine, be sure to include those two.

Grinding The Beans

Moving on to the grind, my experience with the DeLonghi Dinamica Plus was just as impressive.

The built-in conical burr grinder uses stainless steel conical burrs that provide consistent results every time.

One thing I particularly like about this machine is that it gives you the control to adjust the grind size.

While it only has 13 grind settings to choose from, unlike other bean-to-cup machines (the Breville Barista Touch has 30!), it's still useful, especially when you're experimenting with different types of coffee beans.

My first experience grinding beans with this machine was an absolute breeze.

I just filled the bean hopper with my favorite whole coffee beans, selected the desired grind size, and let the machine do its magic. Before I knew it, I had freshly ground beans ready for extraction.

Since it's a super-automatic machine, I didn't have to catch the coffee grounds on a portafilter, which can be messy.

This is a great feature, especially if you're always on the go and don't have extra time to clean up.

Keep in mind, though, that the grind size can greatly influence the taste of your coffee. A finer grind will result in a stronger, more robust flavor, while a coarser grind will yield a milder taste.

With the De'Longhi Dinamica Plus, you can play around with the grind size to achieve the perfect cup according to your taste preference.

From my experience, I find that level 3 is the best grind setting to achieve the perfect coffee ground for this machine.

If you run out of coffee beans or prefer to use pre-ground coffee instead (for decaf coffee), the machine also has a pre-ground coffee option.

All you have to do is bypass the grinder and add your pre-ground coffee directly into the filter basket.

Grinding The Beans Using DeLonghi Dinamica Plus

Pulling The Actual Shot

Although I'm not technically pulling the shot, the process with the DeLonghi Dinamica Plus felt just as satisfying.

As a super-automatic machine, it takes over the entire operation once the beans are loaded.

I started by filling the bean hopper, selecting my preferred drink and strength from the intuitive menu, and then pressing start.

The machine instantly got to work, grinding the beans, tamping the coffee grounds, and initiating the extraction.

It handled these steps with precision, delivering the right pressure throughout the process for optimal extraction.

The De'Longhi Dinamica Plus has five strength levels presented as a bean scale. This represents the strength of the coffee.

If you would like a weaker cup, levels 1 to 2 are the best setting, while for stronger cups, levels 3 to 4 are what I recommend.

I personally like my coffee strength at level 4 with the grind setting on level 3.

However, these settings are specifically tailored to the coffee beans I use, so I recommend you play around with the settings to find the perfect espresso for you.

The first espresso shot I pulled was actually a bit disappointing. The coffee quality wasn't what I expected—no crema and the taste was very weak even if my coffee strength was at level 4.

Upon careful investigation, I found out that this bean-to-cup machine uses very little coffee grounds in each brew. On top of that, it uses too much water.

One solution I found is to adjust the water level. This allows me to adjust the potency of my brew to achieve my ideal coffee.

Overall, the experience of "pulling the shot" was great.

However, you'll need to experiment to find the right coffee setting for you, but once you do, the rest of the process will be pretty much a breeze.

Pulling The Actual Shot On The DeLonghi Dinamica Plus

First Time Frothing Milk

I absolutely love milk drinks, and if you’re the same, you’ll find the LatteCrema milk frothing system of the De'Longhi Dinamica Plus an answered prayer.

First of all, it’s an automatic milk frother. This means that you don’t have to put in any effort in making frothed milk at all.

As a home barista used to manual frothing, I’m a bit skeptical of letting a machine steam my milk, but with just one use, it quickly won me over.

It can produce the right milk foam texture most of the time.

On top of that, the automatic milk frothing system allows you to customize the amount of milk in your drink through the milk frother dial.

Apart from the impressive LatteCrema milk system, the milk container is actually a thermal milk jug. Once you've filled the milk carafe, you can refrigerate it directly without transferring the milk.

This makes it easy for you to keep your milk cold and fresh to achieve the best milk froth every time.

So how does this automatic milk frothing system work? The process was easy. I filled the milk carafe, slotted it in, and picked my drink.

Although the LatteCrema milk system spits out hot milk, the milk in the carafe remains cold—just one of the many smart features of this machine.

How Much Control Do You Have Over The Coffee Experience?

When it comes to controlling your coffee experience, the De'Longhi Dinamica Plus steps up its game with the integration of the Coffee Link app to remotely access your machine.[2]

The DeLonghi Coffee Link app connectivity uses Bluetooth technology to communicate with the machine.

This means that you have to be within the range to control the machine through your smartphone.

This is my favorite feature of the Dinamica Plus.

Usually, I just put a cup underneath the sprout once I'm done making my first cup of coffee, so when I decide I want another cup, I’ll just simply go to my De'Longhi Coffee Link app and start my brew.

No need to walk over to the machine, which saves me a lot of time! Apart from the convenience, the app also comes with adjustable settings to personalize your brew.

Even though the menu of the Dinamica Plus is pretty intuitive, I find it easier to adjust my coffee settings in the app.

These settings include the coffee quantity, amount and froth level of milk, aroma, and coffee temperature.

The app doesn't just limit you to adjusting the brewing parameters. It is also a hub for coffee aficionados to discover tips and tricks to enhance their coffee crafting skills.

From brewing the perfect cup to mastering the art of latte, the app provides a wealth of knowledge at your fingertips.

Moreover, the Coffee Link App isn't just about crafting coffee; it also guides you through the machine's maintenance.

From cleaning schedules to descaling routines, it ensures that your Dinamica Plus stays in top condition, brewing excellent coffee for years to come.

This blend of control, education, and maintenance makes it a comprehensive tool for any coffee lover.

DeLonghi Dinamica Plus Coffee Settings

How Does It Handle Different Roasts?

The DeLonghi Dinamica Plus is a versatile machine that performs impressively well with a variety of roasts.

Thanks to its precision grinder and intuitive settings, it can adjust and fine-tune its brewing process to suit different types of coffee beans.

Whether you're using light, medium, or dark roasts, the machine's dynamic adaptation can pull out the unique flavor profiles of each roast.

However, from my experience, I found that medium roasts work exceptionally well with this machine, striking a balanced blend of acidity, aroma, and body.

For me, the best coffee beans for DeLonghi Dinamica Plus are the Lavazza Super Crema Whole Bean Coffee Blend.

Its medium roast profile and a hint of honey, almonds, and dried fruit harmonize perfectly with the Dinamica Plus's brewing capabilities.

Anyhow, don't let that limit you.

The beauty of this machine lies in its flexibility and adaptability. Feel free to experiment with your favorite beans and discover how the Dinamica Plus can bring out the best in them.

Adding A Scoop Of Coffee To The DeLonghi Dinamica Plus

Look, Feel, and Size Of The Machine

The De'Longhi Dinamica Plus has a plastic exterior, which initially left me a tad disappointed. I guess you really can't complain since it's so affordable, though.

However, the sleek and modern design is appealing enough that you can get over the fact that it's made of plastic.

When it comes to size, the Dinamica Plus measures 9.3 x 16.9 x 13.7 inches, making it compact enough for most kitchen countertops.

However, its relatively tall height might make it a tight fit under some cabinets, so be sure to take into account your kitchen space before purchasing.

What Drinks Can It Make?

The DeLonghi Dinamica Plus is quite a versatile machine when it comes to beverage selection. It comes with a wide range of coffee recipes:

  • Espresso
  • Coffee
  • Doppio+ (double espresso)
  • Long
  • Over Ice (iced coffee)
  • Cappuccino
  • Cappuccino+
  • CappMix
  • Latte Macchiato
  • Caffelatte
  • Hot Milk
  • Flat White
  • Espresso Macchiato

There are three things that I love most about the De'Longhi Dinamica Plus drink recipes.

First is the coffee pot function. This feature allows you to brew six cups of regular coffee in one go—perfect if you’re hosting a party or meeting.

However, you need to be very careful when you use this. The machine uses too much water when brewing coffee, so you need to adjust the settings properly to achieve a delicious brew.

If you have a drip coffee maker, that’s a better choice than the coffee pot function, but if you don’t, it’s good enough.

Next is the Over Ice function. This machine makes iced coffee by brewing your grounds at a lower temperature and pressure, which results in a stronger coffee flavor.

This ensures that you still get a delicious coffee, even if ice is added.

Lastly, the ability to save drinks that are customized.

Basically, you can create user profiles to customize drinks based on your preferences. Unfortunately, it only has up to three user profiles that you customize, but that’s better than none.

Making A Latte Using The DeLonghi Dinamica Plus

How Easy Is It To Use?

The DeLonghi Dinamica Plus is quite user-friendly. It features a simple, intuitive touch interface and comes with a user manual that clearly outlines each step of the operation.

With automatic frothing, grinding, and brewing functions, this machine simplifies the coffee-making process significantly.

On top of that, the ability to connect to the DeLonghi Coffee Link app offers the convenience of remote operation and customization.

However, it might take a little time to familiarize yourself with the various settings and options, but once you've got the hang of it, you'll find that it's quite straightforward to use.

At the same time, the process of figuring out what settings work for your beans can be time-consuming, so make sure you set aside time for that before you start using the machine daily.

How Long Does It Take? (From Heat Up To First Sip)

The De’Longhi Dinamica Plus heats up and is ready to brew in under a minute. Once ready, the machine can deliver a fresh cup of espresso in about 30 seconds.

So, from start to first sip, it typically takes around a minute or so, making it an excellent option for those who appreciate a quick, quality cup of coffee.

The whole process is much faster than ordering coffee from a coffee shop.

How Hard Is It To Clean and Descale?

The De'Longhi Dinamica Plus is very easy to maintain, requiring minimal daily cleaning.

It features an automatic rinse and descaling system that prompts you when it's time for a cleaning cycle, taking the guesswork out of maintenance.

The drip tray and coffee grounds container can be easily removed and rinsed under tap water for regular cleaning.

The brew group is also removable, making it possible to thoroughly clean areas that are typically hard to reach in built-in systems.

Descaling is a necessary process to remove mineral buildup and ensure the longevity of your espresso machine.

The Dinamica Plus will notify you when it's time to descale based on the hardness of the water you use.

The process is straightforward: You'll just need to add a descaling solution to the water tank and follow the descaling instructions displayed on the machine's screen.

  • Bluetooth Connectivity: The Coffee Link App lets me customize my coffee remotely. I can adjust coffee strength, milk texture, temperature, and more right from my phone.
  • Wide Range of Pre-programmed Drinks: With options from espresso to flat white, this machine covers all my coffee cravings.
  • Fast Heat-Up Time: The Dinamica Plus gets up to temperature in just about 40 seconds. I appreciate this speed when I'm in a rush to get my morning caffeine fix.

Using A DeLonghi Dinamica Plus

My Least Favorite Parts About This DeLonghi Model

Although the DeLonghi Dinamica Plus is undoubtedly a brilliant coffee machine, there are a few aspects that don't exactly hit the mark for me.

  • Plastic Exterior: As an enthusiast who appreciates the aesthetics of my coffee gear, I was somewhat disappointed to find that the Dinamica Plus sports a plastic exterior. It's a minor thing, but it does detract slightly from the otherwise sleek design.
  • Requires Time to Find the Right Coffee Settings: If you want high-quality espresso coffee, you're better off with an expensive coffee machine. This espresso maker fails to provide consistent, quality espresso and needs some tinkering to achieve the right brew.

DeLonghi Dinamica Plus Vs Similar Machines

DeLonghi Dinamica Plus Vs Dinamica

The Dinamica and the Dinamica Plus are both impressive machines from DeLonghi, but the Dinamica Plus comes with a few extra features that justify its premium status.

Notably, it includes the Coffee Link app, which allows for more customization and ease of use.

While the original Dinamica is still a great choice for an automatic espresso machine, the Dinamica Plus steps it up with an automatic milk frother and more control over your coffee-making experience.

DeLonghi Dinamica Plus Vs DeLonghi Dinamica

DeLonghi Dinamica Plus Vs Magnifica Evo

While both coffee machines deliver excellent espresso, the Dinamica Plus and Magnifica Evo differ significantly in terms of features.

The Dinamica Plus has the upper hand with its Coffee Link app compatibility, user profiles, and additional customizations, making it more advanced and personalized.

On the other hand, the Magnifica Evo is a simpler, more straightforward machine that still offers reliable performance and good value.

It lacks some of the advanced features found in the Dinamica Plus, but if you're looking for a no-nonsense, easy-to-use espresso machine, the Magnifica Evo might be a great coffee machine.

DeLonghi Dinamica Plus Vs Philips 3200 Lattego

The Dinamica Plus and Philips 3200 LatteGo both offer quality espresso but with different user experiences.

Dinamica Plus boasts of its Coffee Link app compatibility and customizable user profiles, making it a top-tier choice for those craving advanced personalization.

Its wide range of pre-programmed drinks also outshines the Philips 3200 LatteGo.

However, the Philips 3200 LatteGo brings to the table its own milk system, LatteGo, known for easy cleaning and producing high-quality, frothed milk effortlessly.

If milk-based drinks are your priority, and you value ease of maintenance over advanced customization, the Philips 3200 LatteGo could be the winner.

DeLonghi Dinamica Plus Vs Philips 3200 Lattego

DeLonghi Dinamica Plus Vs Jura E8

Both the Dinamica Plus and the Jura E8 are coffee makers in the super-automatic espresso market, but they cater to slightly different coffee lovers.

The Dinamica Plus impresses with its app, enabling users to control the machine remotely, and its LatteCrema System delivers creamy froth for milk-based beverages.

The range of pre-programmed recipes is also more extensive compared to the Jura E8.

On the other hand, the Jura E8 might appeal more to espresso purists, thanks to its PEP (Pulse Extraction Process) technology.[3]

This system optimizes extraction time to deliver more flavorful and nuanced espressos.

On top of that, this Jura coffee machine boasts an Aroma G3 grinder that ensures optimal grinding speed and preserves the aroma of the beans.

In the end, your choice will depend on your priorities. If you value app connectivity and extensive drink customization, the Dinamica Plus is the way to go.

If the quality of espresso and coffee flavor is your main concern, you might lean more toward the Jura E8.
